This first episode sets the stage for what looks to be shaping up to be a very standard but quite entertaining fantasy novel.First, we re introduced to Fallon A staff wielding local law enforcer, he s always hungered for the change to be a hero However, as a middle aged family man with a son in ill health and a wife suffering from depression and anxiety, he seems unlikely to get his chance However, when the Duke s ship runs aground outside his village, mysteriously abandoned, he sees a chance to prove himself by investigating the disappearance.Meanwhile, in the city, rumors of abductions and disappearances have led to literal witch hunts The populace is in fear Prince Cavan is well meaning and good hearted, but finds himself with little power Howev...

So far nothing novel or new to the fantasy genre, but an interesting set up as far as the events go.The characters are a bit bland, and I hope that the author takes the time to develop them a bit .

So where do I begin Well, I didn t love this book, but I didn t hate it either In all fairness I thought it was a promising start to a five part book It had many positives an intriguing premise and mystery some interesting characters some of them were just plain cliched though and a fascinating world that was richly described in this episode Fallon was a good protagonist, and I really enjoyed how the story motored along at a reasonable pace However, there were some negatives for me Firstly I found some of the characters were cliched and stereotyped For example the good prince is handsome and adored by the people and the bad prince is deformed and perverted In this day and age of fantasy I just thought this was really outdated Perhaps Lay will change things up in later episodes This brings me to my second negative I really dislike how authors and publishers are moving towards serialised versions of novels It makes reading feel very disjointed and doesn t allow for things to build properly to culmination Just when things were getting going and I was enjoying the story I was suddenly left with a cliffhanger and feeling cut off I don t think this sort of release and marketing p...

Really just the start of the story I flipped over to Episode 2 straight away. The Last Quarrel Episode One by Duncan Lay is the first of five episodes of the BFF big fat fantasy novel The Last Quarrel They re being released a few weeks apart and as of writing episode four has just come out with episode five due in the last week of March My plan was to review the whole book in one go since I m not a huge fan of rationed episodes I prefer to binge watch my TV as well , but since things have been quiet on the blog of late I thought I d do a short review of episode one to whet your appetites I m still planning to review the rest of the episodes as a complete edition when I m done. The blurb above sums up this novel opening fairly well As well as Fallon, we are also introduced to Prince Cavan, who is involved in his own investigation of strange occurrences in the capital city While Fallon is concerned with selkie rumours, Cavan is dealing with accusations of witchcraft not directed at him I m enjoying The Last Quarrel so fa...
